The course is intended to provide the student with a clear and thorough understanding for both the theory and application of the fundamentals of general-purpose machine elements. The second in a series of three courses which can be considered the “spinal column” of mechanical engineering education this course is dedicated to rotating machine elements. During this course the students learn:
* the principles of Tribology necessary for the correct selection of the friction pairs and lubrication systems;
* the principles of shaft calculation and design including their associated parts;
* the operating characteristics and the design of sliding and rolling-elements including their associated seals.
